The Deutsches Museum's collection comprises over 125,000 objects - from the first automobile to the electron microscope. Valuable originals such as the Wright brothers' first powered aeroplane, the U 1 submarine, the diesel engine or the first program-controlled computer - precious exhibits and their diversity make the Deutsches Museum's collection one of the most important scientific and technical collections in the world. Find out more about selected objects and their exciting stories in the blog.

From research

The Deutsches Museum has a vibrant research culture with an international reputation. Based on the extensive collection, researchers at the Deutsches Museum bring exciting stories to light and generate new scientific findings. Discover selected contributions from education and conservation science, from the history of technology, science and environment and take a look at the creation of knowledge behind our exhibitions.

This is new

There's a lot going on at the Deutsches Museum and there's news almost every day. You can discover the context and background to exhibition openings, publications or the expansion of our digital offering here.

Digitisation

The Deutsches Museum is expanding into the digital space, and has been doing so for some time. We are constantly digitizing material from the archive, library and collection for the “Deutsches Museum Digital” platform. Virtual exhibitions are being opened and virtual tours make the museum rooms accessible outside opening hours. Behind the scenes

What will our future exhibitions look like and how do curators work? How do objects get into the museum? How do collaborations with external partners come about and how do the training programmes at the Deutsches Museum operate? The staff of the Deutsches Museum will give you a glimpse behind the scenes, whether in day-to-day operations or at extraordinary events.

In the workshop

24 specialised workshops belong to the Deutsches Museum. This is where unique pieces - such as the world-famous dioramas - are made, masterpieces restored and technology maintained. Here you can discover how traditional craftsmanship, creativity and meticulousness come together in our workshops and which products result from this merger.

From the construction site

The ongoing modernisation of the Deutsches Museum is a project of the century. The museum building is being renovated and all the exhibitions on the Museumsinsel are being updated and redesigned. These articles will give you an insight into the project, in which the transport of aeroplanes is one amongst many logistical challenges.
